Johnny Ludvigsson-prize for excellent research in childhood and adolescent diabetes
The prize winner should be a Nordic citizen (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden) and have conducted research in diabetes
– clinically in children and adolescents and/or
– epidemiologically on childhood and adolescent diabetes and/or
– experimentally regarding Type 1 diabetes. The use of biological samples from children and adolescents and a clinical association
will be of great importance in the decision.
The prize winners should be nominated by at least three Nordic researchers in diabetes. The motivation should include a description
of the scientific achievement (maximum 1000 words in English) and the most important (maximum 20) scientific publications. The
nomination should be available for the prize committee at the latest the 15th of May the year of the prize.
The prize winner will be selected, at the latest the 15th of June the year of the prize, by a prize committee, The Swedish Child Diabetes Foundation’s scientific council, supplemented by the prize winners during the previous three years.
The award includes a personal sum of 250 000 Swedish crowns and a diploma.
The prize winner will be presented on Johnny Ludvigssons birthday, yearly the 16th of October. The winner will be awarded during
the coming months at a ceremonial meeting or at a major medical conference in the Nordic countries. The prize will be presented primarily by the protector of The Swedish Child Diabetes Foundation, Her Royal Highness Victoria, at present crown princess, secondarily by the chairman of The Swedish Child Diabetes Foundation. The prize winner shall present her/his research during 40 minutes.
The winner should the coming three years voluntarily attend the Prize committee without extra payment.

till yngre barndiabetesforskare i Sverige
Pristagaren ska vara svensk medborgare och ska ha bedrivit diabetesforskning
– kliniskt på barn och ungdomar eller/och
– epidemiologiskt om diabetes hos barn och ungdomar eller/och
– experimentellt rörande Typ 1 diabetes.
Användning av biologiskt material från barn och ungdomar, och klinisk koppling till barn och ungdomsdiabetes ska väga
tungt I bedömningen.
Pristagaren, som inte får ha fyllt 45 år den 16 oktober det aktuella året, får nomineras av annan diabetesforskare eller så
får diabetesforskaren själv skicka in egen nominering, som skall motiveras genom att på engelska beskriva vetenskaplig insats (max 1000 ord) och bifoga de viktigaste (max 10) vetenskapliga publikationerna. Nomineringen ska vara priskommittén tillhanda senast den 15 maj det år priset ska delas ut.
Pristagaren utses, senast 15 juni det år priset ska delas ut, av en priskommitté bestående av Barndiabetesfondens Vetenskapliga Råd förstärkt med de tre föregående årens pristagare.
Priset består av en personlig penningsumma på 50 000 svenska kronor samt ett diplom.
Priset offentliggörs årligen den 16 oktober på Johnny Ludvigssons födelsedag, och utdelas under de kommande
månaderna vid en prisceremoni eventuellt i samband med en större medicinsk konferens. Priset överräcks av Barndiabetesfondens beskyddare HKH Kronprinsessan Victoria, Johnny Ludvigsson eller Barndiabetesfondens ordförande. Pristagaren ska hålla en 20 minuters föreläsning om sin forskning.
Pristagaren åtar sig att kommande tre år delta i Priskommitténs arbete utan extra ersättning.
