Scandinavian Society for the Study of Diabetes 2013 Meeting. Finland. 17-19/5.

The deadline for submitting abstracts to the SSSD meeting May 17th-19th 2013 in Espoo, Finland is March 1st. Deadline for the early registration fee (250Euro) is March 1st. You will find details at

I would like to point out that   generous travel grants are available

for those aged 40 years or younger  with accepted abstracts for presentation. Details are to be found at http://www.medisin.ntnu.no/sssd/.

Aim
The aim of the Annual Meeting of SSSD is to give diabetes researchers and health care professionals in the Nordic and neighboring countries an opportunity to meet, discuss and exchange  clinical and experimental diabetes research. The main focus of the meeting is the opportunity for scientists, and especially young researchers, to present their own clinical or basic science. In this meeting, we would like to emphasize clinical themes, especially prevention and treatment of diabetes and its complications. The program of the meeting includes symposia with From Bench to Bedside perspective.  The purpose of the meeting is to provide educational possibilities for both researchers and health care professionals.

Venue
From Friday noon to Sunday the program takes place at the DIPOLI Congress Centre, Otakaari 24, Otaniemi, Espoo.  Dipoli Congress Centre is located 25 km from Helsinki airport.

Registration
A participation fee of EUR 250 (until March 1st) covers scientific programme, exhibition, coffee break refreshments, lunches (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and dinners (Friday and Saturday). Participation fee is 300 EUR after Marhc 1st. The registration fee should be paid to a bank account IBAN: FI35 1146 3001 1411 72 and BIC: NDEAFIHH. The owner of the bank account is “Suomen diabetestutkijat ja diabetologit ry”.

Accomodation
Hotel rooms with special price for SSSD participants, single room 88 EUR and double room 98 EUR per night, are available at the Radisson Blu Hotel Espoo, Otaranta 2, FIN-02150 ESPOO. The hotel is located at a walking distance from the Dipoli Congress Centre. The number of rooms available is limited and thus early booking is recommended.

Abstracts
SSSD invites the submission of abstracts that report new developments in all areas of diabetes. Abstracts are welcome from scientists in all sectors, including academia, clinics, industry, and education.

Each abstract should contain:  a short, specific title, a list of the contributing authors and affiliations, a sentence stating the study objective, a brief statement of methods, a summary of the results obtained, and a statement of the conclusions. Prepare your abstract in a Microsoft Word document, all text should be in Times New Roman, 12-point font, line spacing single. The abstract should not exceed 2000 characters excluding spaces. Send the abstract as a Microsoft Word document to e-mail address sssd2013@thl.fi.
All abstracts selected will be programmed into Poster Sessions. Some abstracts will also be selected for oral presentation.  The abstract submission closes Friday, February 15, 2013.

Travel Grants
Travel grants for the 48th SSSD meeting in Espoo (Helsinki) 2013 will be available. The grants are intended to cover a major part (but not more than 75%) of the travel, accommodation and registration expenses of young colleagues that present abstracts at the meeting. The age limit is 40 years of age (inclusive).  The grants amount to a maximum of 5000 SEK . Upon receipt of verification of expenses and other information (see below) the grant will be paid out in local currency AFTER the meeting by transfer to a bank account of the recipient.  To obtain a travel grant, send – after acceptance of your abstract – the following data by mail: Name, age, affiliation, postal address, bank account (IBAN and BIC MUST be given), a copy of your abstract and verifications of expenses to:
